Self Helped Out

Stop Speed-Reading Self-Help Books!

Alright, y’all, hear me out: Stop reading so many self-help books! Seriously, put the highlighter down.

I used to flex about reading a book a week, feeling like I was Oprah’s understudy. But you know what wasn’t flexing? My business, my mindset, or pretty much any area of my life. Nada. Still stuck.

Then I stumbled across a podcast that politely called me out. They said, “Reading a ton of books is a vanity thing.” Ouch, right? They hit me with this truth bomb: Would you rather read ONE book, apply it, and 10x your business? Or read 50 books and stay in the same place, except now you’ve got a cute Goodreads list?

Listen, we all say we’d choose the first option, but let’s be real—most of us are out here speed-reading like we’re training for some imaginary self-help Olympics. Gold medal in... absolutely nothing.

So here’s the game plan for next year: ONE book a month. No shortcuts. I’m talking about actually doing the end-of-chapter questions instead of skipping to the “Conclusion” like usual. If it’s a marketing book, I’m going to test those strategies instead of just nodding along like, “Wow, that’s good.”

No more rushing just so I can sound smart at brunch. 2024 is the year of do the work. Let’s see what happens when we actually apply this stuff. Improvement is the vibe. Period.

So what do y’all think? Ready to slow down and glow up? Tell me your go-to book for real change in the comments—bonus points if it’s one you’ve actually finished!
