Daydreaming Out the Window at Work: An Entrepreneur’s Fantasy Island
Share
I’m sitting here at work, staring out the window, and my mind’s somewhere far, far away. Not to some tropical island or a private, tucked-away cabin in the woods. Nah, I’m daydreaming about something a bit more unconventional—like a high-energy photoshoot, or a business meeting with high rollers. You know, the kind of stuff that makes you feel like you’ve made it. An entrepreneur’s version of a fantasy island.
If I’m being honest, I didn’t start down this entrepreneurship path to get rich. I didn’t care about that. What I wanted—what I still want—is the freedom. The kind that’s supposed to come with being your own boss, setting your own hours, and living life on your terms.
It all started back at a multi-level marketing (MLM) meeting, of all places. It was for some miracle juice that promised to change your life, or at least make your skin glow. I went in with zero expectations but left with something I didn’t even know I needed: a copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad.
I didn’t read it right away. In fact, it took me two years to finally crack it open. But when I did? It shifted my entire perspective on money, work, and life. It redefined what success even meant to me. And nearly two decades later, here I am, still chasing that same promise of freedom.
But here's the thing: freedom feels like it’s always just out of reach. Maybe it's not about the destination. Maybe it’s about something deeper, like finding freedom within first. Or maybe—just maybe—it’s that freedom is a myth, and the real reward is in the journey itself.
I don’t know the answer yet. All I know is that I’ll keep staring out this window, wishing I was somewhere else, until I am somewhere else. Maybe I’ll find that freedom. Maybe I won’t. But I do know one thing: the search is part of the adventure.
